New Hercules Show on Disney Destiny
“Disney Hercules,” which will be a Broadway-style stage adaptation of the original Disney film Hercules, promises to be a “fresh, contemporary retelling” of the story centered around the soundtrack from the film. The set design is inspired by John Legend’s “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert” musical television special.
“Disney's Hercules” will start in a museum of Grecian artifacts and then turn into the show. It will include favorite songs like “Go the Distance,” “Zero to Hero,” and “I Won’t Say I’m in Love,” with new arrangements “inspired by the soulfulness of gospel music with the energy of a pop concert.” Among the songs in the musical will be “Shooting Star,” a ballad that was originally written for the movie by Alan Menken and David Zippel.

The show will feature all of the favorite characters from the story, with “many represented in surprising new ways.” The Muses will tell the story just like they do in the film. For the costuming, the gods of Olympus will be portrayed in “high-fashion” costume designs that contrast with the “understated” and “humble” clothing from the humans.
The “mythological behemoths” central to Hercules' story will be brought to life by award-winning puppet designer Michael Curry. You can see a sneak peek at the Hydra monster that will be featured in the show below. The scale of this puppet looks absolutely massive—this is just one head of the figure!
