Disneyland is 70 years old. I’ve been going since I was 5. I met one of the daughters in Napa, California, which is their winery.

In Disneyland wish they kept in the window his original lamp in Walt’s apartment by the firehouse so everyone could see it. The light in the window never went off. It’s his memory.
I know Disneyland is having a different look, which is fine, but I don’t even know if the daughters would like the original lamp in the window is not there.
Other than that, love going to Disneyland 😄

I knew I saw it somewhere – on the d23.com site – that must have been a great time:

After their journey along the Rivers of America, guests gathered inside the Golden Horseshoe Saloon for a buffet dinner and to enjoy the musical talents and comedic antics of Wally Boag, Donald Novis, and the original Slue Foot Sue, Judy Marsh. But it was actually Walt who stole the show, leaning over a balcony and interacting with the performers. Climbing down onto the stage, Walt’s enthusiasm was met with eruptions of applause and calls for a speech.

It does not look like Walt at all in the videos and stills. I’ll find out for myself in October.

My Family and I love these articles. Thank you for this and all other fantastic stories!

One minor (but important) correction. The late Martin “Marty” Sklar was not only a Disney Imagineer. He is also a Disney Legend and had a window at Disneyland. Just wanted to note the correction to spelling Marty’s last name.

Great memory! That does sound right to me. There are some great stories about the early days of Walt Disney and the parks.

I read that somewhere … Can you imagine… one of the most famous men on the planet at the time – falling while climbing down a pipe, right before the opening of Disneyland??? yikes …

Disneyland really is the heart of all the parks. While other parks do change things to be different from DL, I hope DL doesn’t get rid of the things that have always made it special. IM looking forward to my trip from Australia next month, 3 days at DL and DCA. Been more than a decade since I was last there.

Comment on Heightened Security and Protests Nearby Disneyland This Weekend Due to JD Vance Visit by Leon https://mickeyvisit.com/jd-vance-disneyland-security-july-12-2025/#comment-105078 Tue, 15 Jul 2025 06:23:36 +0000 https://mickeyvisit.com/?p=86640#comment-105078 Yes, his family is entitled to visit the parks, but I sure hope they had to pay regular pr5ices for everything like everyone else does. He and his associates (you know who I mean) are taking more & more of our money and rights away (how many regular families can no longer afford their Disney trips because of what our “government” is doing) and I refuse to pitch in for his family to visit there. Me? A 75 year old lifelong Disney fan & enthusiast.
