One Big Thing in Disneyland News – First-Ever Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics Revealed

Walt Disney audio-animatronic in “Walt Disney – A Magical Life.”

This week, “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” debuts with the first-ever Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics figure. We got an early look at this show ahead of its official opening on July 17. The new attraction starts out with an adapted version of the “One Man's Dream” film that currently plays at Disney's Hollywood Studios, then the Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney is revealed in a final climactic scene. In that moment, Walt is in his office, and he shares some reflections and words of wisdom.

A new gallery experience called “Evolution of a Dream” will also debut on the same day at the Main Street Opera House, showing Disneyland before, during, and after Walt’s dream became a reality. This gallery exhibit features a collection of images, art, and artifacts highlighting the evolution of Disneyland and its various lands. There is also a special Audio-Animatronics section featuring the history of this technology. You can see the photos of this new gallery exhibit here.

See our photos and video of the figure here. Make sure you are on our Mickey Visit newsletter to get our full review when we share it.

  • On July 16, D23 is hosting a celebration at Anaheim Packing District for Disneyland's 70th anniversary celebration. This D23 Night is being held on the same day as the annual World Taste at the Anaheim Packing House. See details on these offerings in our separate article here!
  • Disneyland shared that when “Walt Disney – A Magical Life” opens on July 17, visitors will be able to join a virtual queue to experience it. A standby line will not initially be available while the virtual queue is offered. You can see details on how this will work in our separate article here. We do not anticipate that they'll utilize a virtual queue for long.
  • You can expect some general anniversary festivities on July 17 this year, like a cavalcade and playing of Walt's dedication speech that they typically do. We hope that, because this is a bigger anniversary with a celebration surrounding it, we could see even more special offerings on July 17 this year.
  • Oogie Boogie Bash tickets are currently on sale, and there are still party nights left! This popular after-hours Halloween party in Disney California Adventure features rare characters, trick-or-treating, the Frightfully fun Parade, the Villains Grove scenescape, and the opportunity to dress up in a costume. See all information on 2025 Oogie Boogie Bash dates and tickets here, including dates and prices for the parties. You can also see the dates that have already sold out for Oogie Boogie Bash here.

Magic Key Benefits Continue in July

What We're Thinking About This Week

  • Emily is excited about the debut of the new verse in the finale of “it's a small world” this week! This is such a wonderful addition to the attraction.
  • Gavin enjoyed finally seeing the new Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic. It's touching that this is the first thing that you see walking into the park on the right-hand side and the Walt Disney Apartment is the first thing you see on the left-hand side.
  • Lindsay has been thinking about how Disneyland is settling itself as the anchor park in Disney theme park history. The debut of the Walt Disney animatronic this week comes just a week after we saw Rivers of America close permanently in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. It's comforting to know Disneyland is preserving the old stories while Walt Disney World can be free to can create new ones.

Disneyland Crowd Calendar This Week

This week, you can expect to see normal crowds and some days of above normal crowds heading into the weekend. On July 17, Disneyland's anniversary date, you can expect to feel some presence of crowds in Disneyland Park, but it's likely that everyone will be there for the celebration rather than the rides, just like on the first day of the 70th anniversary celebration.

Most local schools are out for summer break now. While crowds can be noticeable during the summer, this time of year is not quite as busy as some of the peak times of the year at Disneyland, like Halloween in October and the holidays. During the summer months, it's especially important to make good use of Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Disneyland to skip the lines for attractions! See our Disneyland Lightning Lane Multi Pass tips for making the most of the service.

You can see our rating of all upcoming dates in our Mickey Visit Disneyland Crowd Calendar.

New Disneyland Ride Closures This Week

This week, the following rides close for refurbishment:

  • Main Street Cinema closes for refurbishment this week on July 15, and it reopens on July 17.
  • Redwood Creek Challenge Trail closes for refurbishment on July 21.

Here are some of the other current ride closures that are continuing into this week:

  • Pixar Pal-A-Round is closed for refurbishment
  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue is closed for refurbishment
  • Matterhorn Bobsleds is closed for refurbishment (reopening date announced!)
  • The Disney Gallery is closed for refurbishment (reopening this week)

You can see reopening dates for some of the above attractions and other upcoming closures in our Disneyland ride refurbishment guide.

Other Disney Content We're Watching

Each week, we'll share some of our favorite information and fun content from across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube in an effort to spotlight some of the great creators who work so hard to share details from Disneyland.

First up, we have this fun video from @thelaparkhoppers on Instagram highlighting this secret menu drink at Lamplight Lounge. This looks so good!

The next post we want to highlight is from @foodatdisneyland on Instagram, showing a new plastic collectible cup coming to Dole Whip-serving locations on Disneyland's anniversary date.

Welcome back to Mickey Visit Disneyland This Week! Each week at Mickey Visit we unearth Disneyland news and tips you could easily miss completely. We have all of the essential dates for your visit. This week, we have news about more new anniversary additions coming, Haunted Mansion merch, the reopening date of a classic ride revealed, and more.

These news and date updates provide the most important information for your visit every single week whether you are a frequent visitor or visiting for the first time in years. We cut through the noise to hone in on what dates and news matter for this week. Click here to see our most recent Disneyland This Week update from last week for all the things you missed at Disneyland and our first Disneyland This Week update for all my thoughts on what we are hoping to achieve with these weekly updates.

Each week I and members of my team including Lindsay Brookshier, Emily Midgley, and Bridget Waldman from @CaliforniaDisneyBliss, will work together to bring you the most essential Disneyland information. One Big Thing in Disneyland News – NEW Additions Debuting for Disneyland's Anniversary Next Week

Main Street Opera House Disneyland marquee

Disneyland's 70th anniversary celebration is currently in full swing with lots of special entertainment and offerings at the resort, but there are a couple more new additions debuting next week for Disneyland's actual anniversary date on July 17. A new show at the Main Street Opera House featuring the first-ever Walt Disney animatronic and a new addition to “it's a small world” are both debuting on this day! We're really excited about both of these new additions, which feel like the perfect way to honor the park and the major figures who were instrumental in shaping its legacy.

In general, for the park's anniversary date each year, we typically see some festivities like a cavalcade and playing of Walt's dedication speech. We hope that because this is a bigger anniversary with a celebration surrounding it, we could see even more special offerings on July 17 this year.

The new show at the Main Street Opera House, called “Walt Disney – A Magical Life,” will tell the story of Walt Disney's life through remastered footage and audio recordings, culminating in stories and heartfelt words of wisdom from the Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney in his office. This debut of Walt Disney himself as the “most-lifelike Audio-Animatronic ever” has been a long time coming, as Imagineering chose to wait until the technology was advanced enough to do it justice. You can read more about why they chose this timing, our take on an early version of the figure, and more from our trip to Imagineering where we learned about the new figure and show. After the show's initial run, it will alternate Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln show.

We anticipate that, due to the demand for the show in its initial days, it will likely utilize a virtual queue. We haven't heard anything about how they are going to control crowds on this day, but there is really no good place for people to line up to see this show so the virtual queue seems like it would make the most sense.

There will also be a new gallery experience called “Evolution of a Dream” opening at the Main Street Opera House along with the show. This gallery will feature images, art, and artifacts that show Disneyland before, during, and after Walt’s dream became a reality. In the lobby, there will be a special exhibit highlighting the history of Audio-Animatronics technology, which is fitting in the context of the debut of this advanced Walt Disney figure. Disneyland is collaborating with The Walt Disney Family Museum for these lobby experiences, and there will be over 30 artifacts on loan, including some original items from Walt Disney's private Disneyland apartment that have never been publicly exhibited at Disneyland Park before.

On July 17, there will also be a new third verse added to “it's a small world” honoring Disney Legend Richard Sherman. This third song verse, Richard Sherman's final Disney contribution, will debut in the finale scene of the ride. We initially only had confirmation that this would be the case at Disneyland, but today it was revealed that the change will be coming to Disney World as well. You can see the new verse in our coverage of this change here. Inside the Main Street Cinema, you'll be able to watch the short film “The Last Verse,” which celebrates the Sherman Brothers' iconic song and unveils this final verse.

Welcome back to Mickey Visit Disneyland This Week! Each week at Mickey Visit we unearth Disneyland news and tips you could easily miss completely. We have all of the essential dates for your visit. This week, we have news about the 4th of July impact on Disneyland, a classic ride reopening from an extended closure, and more.

My name is Gavin Doyle. Each week I and members of my team including Lindsay Brookshier, Emily Midgley, and Bridget Waldman from @CaliforniaDisneyBliss, will work together to bring you the most essential Disneyland information. This is your one-stop resource for everything happening at Disneyland the week of June 30, 2025.

One Big Thing in Disneyland News – 4th of July at Disneyland

This year, the 4th of July holiday is on a Friday and backs up to the weekend, so you can expect that crowd levels will be higher. Three out of the four Magic Key passes are blocked on the 4th of July, but Inspire Key holders and tourists visiting for the holiday will balance out the absence of those groups. While crowds may feel more manageable during the day, you will definitely feel them in full force in the evening for the fireworks show.

Disneyland puts on a special fireworks show called “Disney’s Celebrate America! – A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky,” which is currently scheduled for 9:35 pm on the 4th of July. This show featuring patriotic fireworks, music, and projections only takes place on this one holiday. You'll definitely feel the impact of the holiday crowds turning out to see this fireworks show, as this is the main draw of the holiday at Disneyland. In addition to the special 4th of July fireworks at Disneyland, you can also enjoy the full scope of Disneyland 70th anniversary entertainment and special offerings.

You can also watch the Flag Retreat Ceremony at Disneyland, a daily ceremony honoring veterans. Last year, the 1st Marine Division Band from Camp Pendleton, San Diego, performed in a special Flag Retreat Ceremony on the 4th of July. We do not yet see a special offering listed on the calendar yet, but you can still expect the ceremony to take place at its usual daily time at 4:15 pm.

At Disney California Adventure, there has also been a “Spirit of America” special World of Color show in the past, but nothing has yet been announced. Usually, there are some special 4th of July treats available at the resort, but this year, we have only seen treats announced for Disney World so far. You can see more details on celebrating this holiday at Disneyland in our guide to the 4th of July at Disneyland!

Important Disneyland Dates This Week

pirates of the caribbean disneyland entrance

  • On Tuesday, July 1, Pirates of the Caribbean will no longer be offered as a Lightning Lane Multi Pass ride. It was added last year as a “temporary” offering due to the construction happening in New Orleans Square and ended up sticking around for way longer than we thought it would! You can see our separate article on this and why we expect it will be a good change here.
  • Oogie Boogie Bash tickets are currently on sale, and there are still party nights left! Disneyland Crowd Calendar This Week

This week, you can expect mostly normal crowds with a few days of above normal crowds mixed in. The 4th of July holiday backing up to a weekend will have an impact on crowd levels as we discuss in more detail in our “One Big Thing In Disneyland News” section above.

First up, we wanted to share this video from Miguel (@gentlemansdisney on Instagram) highlighting the soft reopening of Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room! The garden area has been refurbished and some elements repainted. Here is a look at the Tangaroa Tree, which is back in working order again!

Next, we wanted to highlight this video from @themagicalthumbs on Instagram featuring one of the best Oogie Boogie Bash costume ideas we've ever seen! These are so much fun.

We also wanted to include this post from @foodatdisneyland on Instagram, sharing a first look at the new Star Wars Coca-Cola bottles that have arrived a little early at Disneyland, seen at Ship to Shore Marketplace.

This week we have news about Disneyland's popular Halloween party going on sale, a favorite dining location taking reservations, new merchandise collections, and more.

My name is Gavin Doyle. Each week I and members of my team including Lindsay Brookshier, Emily Midgley, and Bridget Waldman from @CaliforniaDisneyBliss, will work together to bring you the most essential Disneyland information. This is your one-stop resource for everything happening at Disneyland the week of June 23, 2025.

One Big Thing in Disneyland News – Oogie Boogie Bash Tickets Go On Sale This Week!

Hades at Oogie Boogie Bash

This year's Oogie Boogie Bash tickets go on sale this week! This popular after-hours Halloween party in Disney California Adventure features rare characters, trick-or-treating, the Frightfully fun Parade, the Villains Grove scenescape, and the opportunity to dress up in a costume. You can see everything you need to know about Oogie Boogie Bash here!

In response to the incredible demand for this event, Disneyland has expanded the Oogie Boogie Bash parties so that there are more nights than ever before in 2025. These start on August 17, a few days before the official Disneyland Halloween celebration even kicks off, and take place on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursday nights through October 31.

If you are not attending the Oogie Boogie Bash parties but still planning on visiting during the Halloween celebration, this means that you need to be aware of the dates that Disney California Adventure closes early at 6 pm on party nights so that you are not caught off-guard. If you're on the fence about whether or not to go, you can check out some of the reasons why some may choose to skip Oogie Boogie Bash.

If you do want to attend the parties this year, make sure you act quickly when tickets go on sale this week, especially if you have your eye on one of the more popular party dates. See our top tips for getting Oogie Boogie Bash tickets. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Thursday, June 26, 2025. There will be a limited number of tickets for pre-sale for Inspire Magic Key holders on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, and all Magic Key holders on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. See all information on 2025 Oogie Boogie Bash tickets here, including dates and prices for the parties.

Hong Kong Disneyland Anniversary Celebration

Hong Kong Disney
Photo via Disney Parks Blog

This week I am headed to Hong Kong Disneyland for the very first time. The Hong Kong Disneyland Resort consists of the Disneyland theme park there and three Disneyland Resort Hotels. There are a number of rides and attractions that I am really looking forward to seeing for the very first time.

This is the least visited Disney theme park resort around the world. This park had just 6.4 million visitors last year. The Walt Disney Studios park at Disneyland Paris actually had slightly fewer visitors, but that was to just that one park. Combine it with Disneyland Paris, and that resort had nearly double the number of visitors as Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

My trip coincides with the kickoff of the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong Disneyland, which features a new parade, enhanced nighttime show, and more. The nighttime show includes drones, illuminated water projections, choreographed water fountains, flames, lasers, theatrical lighting and pyrotechnics effects. Hong Kong was the original home to the beloved Paint the Night parade currently running at Disneyland, so I am particularly excited to see how this park is pushing the envelope further with their nighttime entertainment. I am sure that at some point we will see drones used widely within domestic Disney theme parks the way that they are in Hong Kong and other international parks.

In particular, I am excited about the relatively new World of Frozen land at the theme park which is the first-ever entire land themed to Frozen. This land features two attractions and the village from the movie.

The park is also home to Mystic Manor, which is widely considered to be the best modern era Disney dark ride with an original story, and the Big Grizzly Gulch Runaway Mine Cars, which is a unique version of Big Thunder Mountain.

I'll be staying at Disney Explorers Lodge Hotel which is an adventure-themed hotel that's reportedly a cross between Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge. It looks awesome and I look forward to giving you more of a tour.

I'll be bringing you along with me on social media (be sure to follow us by clicking the social links at the top of the site page) and here on Mickey Visit in future updates. Please let me know here what you would be interested in seeing about the new park.

Welcome back to Mickey Visit Disneyland This Week! Each week at Mickey Visit we unearth Disneyland news and tips you could easily miss completely. We have all of the essential dates for your visit. This week we have news about the reopening of a theme park entrance, a change to a popular attraction, reservations added for a popular restaurant, and more.

These news and date updates provide the most important information for your visit every single week whether you are a frequent visitor or visiting for the first time in years. One Big Thing in Disneyland News – Beat the Summer Heat!

Grizzly River Run ride

The temperature is rising in Southern California as we're getting into the summer! There are some significant perks to visiting during this time, like longer hours of park operation, full Disneyland 70th anniversary offerings, and the debut of some new 70th anniversary additions coming up soon in July. While this is a great time to visit, you'll definitely want to be aware of how to navigate the heat!

During the summer, you can expect the weather at Disneyland to be pretty hot and dry, especially in the afternoons. Make sure you dress accordingly and bring sun protection like hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc. Sunscreen is sold in almost all Disneyland Resort stores in and out of the parks, but we recommend buying anything you may need ahead of your trip (also including cooling towels, fans, etc.) to avoid the higher prices. Remember that ice water is free at all quick service dining locations, and bottle refilling station locations can be found in the app.

During the warmer summer months, arriving for rope drop in the mornings is extra important so that you can enjoy rides with lower crowds and temperatures early on in the day. See our Disneyland rope drop strategy and Disney California Adventure rope drop strategy. As you get closer to the middle of the day, this is the time to plan a Lightning Lane reservation for water rides like Tiana's Bayou Adventure or Grizzly River Run, or schedule table-service dining when temperatures are the highest to escape the heat. See our guide to navigating summer at Disneyland for more tips!

  • Disneyland has fixed the infamous curved Eiffel Tower scene on Soarin' Around the World! This curving effect of the Eiffel Tower was addressed by incorporating a new shot that approaches from a different angle. You can see a clip of the new scene in the “Other Disney Content We're Watching” section below.
  • You can now find meet-up times for Rex, who is appearing for a limited time at Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure this summer, in the Disneyland app. This wasn't previously an option, so now it will be easier to see when this favorite character is appearing!
  • The Pride Nite parties take place at Disneyland Park on Monday, June 16, and Wednesday, June 18. There are still tickets available for the event and the special event-exclusive foods that will be available here. You can see more details about Pride Nite at Disneyland here. These two parties are the last of the Disneyland After Dark series this year.
  • On June 19, there will be an unofficial meetup celebrating Juneteenth in both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. The meet-up will happen at 1pm at the Main Street Train Station. You can see details in an Instagram post by @bpoetic here.

  • At Disneyland Park, Wondrous Journeys shows with fireworks every night of the week, along with Fantasmic!. Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga will have one showtime a night. Paint the Night runs twice a night, and The Celebrate Happy Calvacade runs twice during the day.

What We're Thinking About This Week

  • Emily is really happy to see that the Eiffel Tower scene on Soarin' has been fixed! That issue really took you out of the immersion of the ride, so it's good that they addressed this with a different angle for that scene.
  • Gavin is happy to have the Pixar Place entrance open once again. I like using that to more easily cut into that side of Disney's Grand Californian when staying there.
  • Lindsay loves to see the addition of more breakfast items in the area especially with a grab and go option that Wetzels Pretzels now offers.

Disneyland Crowd Calendar This Week

This week, you can expect mostly normal crowds at the parks.

Here are some of the current ride closures that are continuing into this week:

  • Matterhorn Bobsleds is closed for refurbishment
  • Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room is closed for refurbishment (reopening date announced!)
  • The Disney Gallery is closed for refurbishment

You can see reopening dates for some of the above attractions and other upcoming closures in our Disneyland ride refurbishment guide.

Other Disney Content We're Watching

Each week, we'll share some of our favorite information and fun content from across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube in an effort to spotlight some of the great creators who work so hard to share details from Disneyland.

First up, we have a video from Philander (@philanderc85 on Instagram) showing that the infamous curved Eiffel Tower on Soarin' Around the World has been fixed!

Welcome back to Mickey Visit Disneyland This Week! Each week at Mickey Visit we unearth Disneyland news and tips you could easily miss completely. We have all of the essential dates for your visit.

My name is Gavin Doyle. Each week I and members of my team including Lindsay Brookshier, Emily Midgley, and Bridget Waldman from @CaliforniaDisneyBliss, will work together to bring you the most essential Disneyland information. This is your one-stop resource for everything happening at Disneyland the week of June 9, 2025.

One Big Thing in Disneyland News – Next Steps of Disneyland Resort Expansion Announced

parking hub and transportation center Disneyland concept art

Last week, I attended a resort update presentation from the new President of the Disneyland Resort, Thomas Mazloum. During the presentation, he shared information about Disneyland's positive impacts on Anaheim, California and Southern California broadly. A researcher from Tourism Economics, a division of Oxford Economics, was on hand and revealed an eye-popping number. Disneyland generated $16.1 billion in annual economic impact across Southern California and supports more than 102,000 jobs in the Southern California region (directly and indirectly).

We also learned more about Disney's commitment to volunteering in the community and heard more about their internal efforts to support Cast Members. They ended the presentation with some major news from Disneyland regarding future expansion plans for the resort! Thomas was joined onstage by Emo O'Brien, the Disneyland Site Portfolio Executive for Walt Disney Imagineering, to share updates on projects at the resort.

The biggest news was the announcement of a new parking structure and transportation hub on the east side of the resort. This new area will have about 6,000 parking spaces, shuttle and rideshare areas, security screening, and dedicated access for traffic off of Disney Way, as well as a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard that leads to a new esplanade. You can see details about this major upcoming project and concept art of the new esplanade arrival experience here. This concept artwork looks stunning.

During the announcement, it was mentioned that this new transportation hub is what “unlocks DisneylandForward” and enables future growth by allowing Disney California Adventure to expand out into the current transportation area for the new Avatar land. Another big piece of this announcement was that in order to make this Avatar expansion possible, a classic ride in Disney California Adventure will be closing. You can see all the details about that closure in our separate article here.

Coco ride entrance concept art Disney California Adventure

The last piece of news was that we received more details about the Coco ride at Disney California Adventure, including new concept art and its location in the park! The ride will be built near Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier in areas that are mostly backstage today, which is what we predicted in our article discussing where the new rides in Disney California Adventure would go.

They also reiterated their excitement about the new Avengers Campus additions where two new rides are coming. You can see all the details on the new Avengers Campus E-Ticket ride and the new Iron Man Tony Stark ride here. You can also see our most recent Avengers Campus construction update here.

Generally, I am thrilled to see these new additions forward, even if I am disappointed to lose Monsters Inc. In particular, Coco stands out to me as an exciting new attraction that has a ton of room to impress. I'll do a more in-depth look at when these new attractions could open at Disneyland soon.

One Big Thing in Disneyland News – Summer at Disneyland Begins

Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland

This week marks the beginning of the “summer break” season at Disneyland, with almost all of the schools in the area out for break by 6/5 or 6/12. Though many expect that summer would be the busiest time of the year at Disneyland, it is actually not quite as crowded as other peak times like Halloween at Disneyland in October and the holidays (including Thanksgiving at Disneyland and the busy last couple weeks of Christmas at Disneyland).

Looking ahead, if you're considering visiting during summer at Disneyland, the best times to do so are during the month of June and late August, as crowd levels (and temperatures!) will pick up in July. However, keep in mind that a few more Disneyland 70th anniversary offerings will be introduced in mid-July, including a new show with the first-ever Walt Disney animatronic.

Generally, weekdays are going to be less crowded than weekends during the summer. In our article discussing the best days of the week to visit Disneyland, we mention how visiting towards the middle of the week (Tuesdays/Wednesdays) tends to be the best move when visiting during the summer. During July, Saturdays can also be a good day to visit, with the second-highest tier Magic Key blocked out on this day.

The second part of August can be a good time to visit, with many slower days, but keep in mind that there will be a rush of crowds initially when Magic Key blockouts summer blockouts are lifted. If you want to visit during the Halloween celebration but are trying to avoid the crowds, aim to schedule your trip during the last few days of August. In our Mickey Visit Disneyland crowd calendar, we predict that the period around August 25-29 will be a good window of time to visit for this, as most kids will be back in school by this point and the initial rush after the first few days of the Halloween celebration will have hopefully calmed down.

  • Emily thought the Savannah Bananas Day last week was so cute and loved seeing how much fun the players had at the parks! Their positive energy was totally the embodiment of the 70th anniversary “Celebrate Happy” sentiment.
  • Gavin is excited to bite into the new, smaller Monte Cristo that is just returning to Royal Street Veranda. I never can finish one of these sandwiches on their own but this is the perfect size to enjoy.
  • Lindsay enjoyed seeing all the content from Savannah Bananas this week especially since she was not too familiar with them until their Disneyland visit. They may have gained a new TikTok follower!

Downtown Disney! Disneyland is celebrating Pride Month in June.

Disneyland Crowd Calendar This Week

For the most part, the crowds are leveling out from the rush that began in mid-May, but we anticipate seeing some days of below-normal crowds and above-normal crowds mixed in. We're heading into the start of the summer, with kids out of school on summer break. While crowds can be noticeable during the summer, this time of year is not quite as busy as some of the peak times of the year at Disneyland, like Halloween in October and the holidays. You can see our full crowds discussion looking ahead to this summer in our “One Big Thing in Disneyland News” section above.

You can see our rating of all upcoming dates in our Mickey Visit Disneyland Crowd Calendar.

New Disneyland Ride Closures This Week

Here are some of the current ride closures that are continuing into this week:

  • Chip ‘n' Dale's GADGETcoaster is closed for refurbishment.
  • Matterhorn Bobsleds is closed for refurbishment
  • Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room is closed for refurbishment
  • The Disney Gallery is closed for refurbishment

You can see reopening dates for some of the above attractions and other upcoming closures in our Disneyland ride refurbishment guide.

Other Disney Content We're Watching

Each week, we'll share some of our favorite information and fun content from across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube in an effort to spotlight some of the great creators who work so hard to share details from Disneyland.

First, we have this video from Brittney Lindley (@alittlebrittdisney on Instagram) highlighting the Disneyland 70th anniversary guided tour and what it includes!

Next up, we have this video from @sometimescastles on Instagram highlighting Stitch's Interplanetary Beach Party Blast, which has returned for the summer!

Welcome back to Mickey Visit Disneyland This Week! Each week at Mickey Visit we unearth Disneyland news and tips you could easily miss completely. We have all of the essential dates for your visit.

My name is Gavin Doyle. Each week I and members of my team including Lindsay Brookshier, Emily Midgley, and Bridget Waldman from @CaliforniaDisneyBliss, will work together to bring you the most essential Disneyland information. This is your one-stop resource for everything happening at Disneyland the week of May 26, 2025.

One Big Thing in Disneyland News – Savannah Bananas Visit Disneyland!

On May 2, 2025, Mickey Mouse visited the Savannah Bananas in Georgia to help announce they are coming to Disneyland park. On May 28, 2025, Disneyland Resort will offer a one-day only experience themed to the Greatest Show in Sports, the Savannah Bananas.

The Savannah Bananas, a popular exhibition baseball team, are coming to Disneyland on Wednesday, May 28! The Savannah Bananas play a fast-paced type of baseball called “Banana Ball” that features a set of specific rules, bold costumes, and more fun. The team is visiting Disneyland for a day of special offerings before their sold-out road games vs. the Firefighters at Angel Stadium.

On Savannah Bananas Day at Disneyland, there will be several special offerings to celebrate, including a Savannah Bananas Cavalcade along Main Street U.S.A., a special dance number of “Hey Baby” in front of the castle, and banana-inspired treats at a few locations across the parks.

You can read about all of the Disneyland Savannah Bananas foods coming for the special event in our updated article here.

We are expecting a lot of excitement surrounding this event when it happens this Wednesday! We already expect that this day will be above normal crowds at Disneyland Park, but the event as a whole shouldn't have a major crowd impact on the park overall, other than bringing some extra traffic to Main Street U.S.A. during the cavalcade and dance number. If anything, we expect that these events may have a similar effect as the opening day of the 70th anniversary celebration did, drawing people away from the rides and leading to lower wait times.

We do not yet have the times for the two main Savannah Bananas Day events, but given the regular afternoon showtimes of the 70th anniversary cavalcade, we expect them to happen in the morning or early afternoon. These will likely be announced via social media in the next day or so.

This week, you can expect to see a mix of normal and above-normal crowds in the parks. The rush from the start of the Disneyland 70th anniversary and Memorial Day weekend should start to die down a little, but we still expect higher crowds at Disneyland Park for a few days this week, including on Savannah Bananas Day.

One Big Thing in Disneyland News – 70th Anniversary Celebration Highlights

Disneyland "it's a small world" projections Tapestry of Happiness

The Disneyland 70th anniversary celebration has officially kicked off, bringing several special offerings to the parks! It's clear was a lot of thought was put into this celebration to add substance to it with so many unique offerings, from major entertainment experiences to some smaller magical details across the resort. The tone of the 70th anniversary celebration really leans into the “Celebrate Happy” theme with a tone that is more celebratory and upbeat than reverential, which works quite well in distinguishing it from previous celebrations.

Disneyland brought back a mix of returning entertainment and new additions for this celebration. Of course, the long-awaited return of the Paint the Night parade was a major highlight for us, along with the return of the Wondrous Journeys fireworks show. But some of the smaller-scale offerings and entertainment really stole the show!

We were especially impressed with the “Tapestry of Happiness” projection show at “it's a small world,” which honors Disneyland history and is inspired by Disney Legend Mary Blair. The show contains several fun Easter eggs and celebrates different moments and attractions! This is a smaller offering compared to some of the returning favorites we mentioned above, but it captures the essence of the 70th anniversary celebration nicely.

Disneyland scavenger hunt key

Some other smaller offerings really blew us away as well, like the new “Key to Disneyland” scavenger hunt experience that unlocks special effects in each of Disneyland's nine lands, culminating in the reveal of a special Disney pin. This was an extremely popular offering during the first day of the celebration and sold out. Additionally, the new MagicBand+ experiences were a surprisingly fun highlight of the event, featuring some fun interactions inspired by original attractions and collectible tickets.

These are just a few of the highlights of the celebration! You can check out our full article ranking all of the Disneyland 70th anniversary offerings from worst to best. While most of the offerings work really well, there was one element we're not a huge fan of that we discuss more in that article.

Important Disneyland Dates This Week

Pixar Pals Playtime Party at Fantasyland Theatre

  •  Two types of Disneyland Magic Key passes, the Inspire Key and Believe Key, will go on sale on Tuesday, May 20. You can see details and benefits of these pass types in our full Disneyland Magic Key guide.
  • A new Stitch and Scrump sipper will be available starting May 22 to celebrate the release of the live-action Lilo and Stitch movie. You can see details in our separate Disneyland popcorn bucket article here!
  • Grad Nite parties take place at Disney California Adventure this week on Wednesday, May 21, and Thursday, May 22. The park will close at 9 pm on these dates. Guests can stay for World of Color, but they need to exit after the show. You can see more details about Grad Nite at Disney California Adventure here.
  • Starting Friday, May 23, the Pixar Pals Playtime Party and “Stitch’s Interplanetary Beach Party Blast” return to Disneyland Park for a limited time. The Pixar Pals Playtime Party is a returning offering from Pixar Fest at the Fantasyland Theatre featuring interactive games, activities, and photo locations inspired by favorite Pixar films, Pixar character appearances, and Pixar shorts playing on the big screen. “Stitch’s Interplanetary Beach Party Blast” is a dance party at Tomorrowland Terrace that may also feature Goofy, Pluto, Chip ‘n Dale, Clarabelle, and other characters.
  • The dining reservation window is now open for Disneyland's actual anniversary date on July 17, 2025. Be sure to make your dining reservations early for this day, as we expect Disneyland Park in particular to be more crowded with the opening of the new show featuring the first Walt Disney animatronic and new verse added to “it's a small world.” Currently Magic Key Annual Pass reservations are already sold out for this date.

What We're Thinking About This Week

  • Emily is excited about the new energy that all of the 70th anniversary offerings bring to the resort. She has had the “Celebrate Happy” theme song stuck in her head for four days straight now! Definitely very catchy.
  • Gavin is looking forward to eating even more of the new Disneyland 70th food items. Particularly, he is excited for the “inspired by the past” items that have some connection to the park's history.
  • Lindsay is counting the days until her next Disneyland visit to see all the new and returning entertainment for the 70th Celebration especially the Wondrous Journeys fireworks.

Disneyland Crowd Calendar This Week

This week, you can expect to see mostly above-normal crowds following the kickoff of Disneyland's 70th anniversary celebration. You can expect higher crowds on Memorial Day, as many families will take this day off from work and school to visit the parks for the 70th anniversary celebration. This day is only blocked for 1 out of the 4 Magic Key passes, so you will see a lot of locals taking this opportunity to visit. Looking ahead to next week, we expect that crowds may start to calm down a bit more then.

One Big Thing in Disneyland News – 70th Anniversary Celebration Brings Several New Offerings

Disneyland 70th anniversary decorations in Town Square

This is a big week for Disneyland, as the 70th anniversary celebration kicks off on May 16! Disneyland is hard at work right now putting up the remaining 70th anniversary decor ahead of the event's start date. The parks will have a very full entertainment schedule of returning favorites and some new additions. We will break down some of the major highlights (and what we're most excited about)! We have been in the parks and see tons of new decorations going up like the one seen above. I love that photo snapped by a member of our team this weekend.

When the fan-favorite Paint the Night parade returns to Disneyland Park, it will feature the popular “Frozen” ice castle float for the first time since the parade's initial run. Tinker Bell has also received a new look for the parade! We will be keeping an eye out for any other changes to this parade. Fans are very excited about this and have long been asking Disney to bring this beloved parade back.

Paint the Night

We're also curious to see what the new World of Color show brings to the table. We know that the show is inspired by Walt Disney's opening-day words, “To all who come to this happy place… welcome!” It will be interesting to see how they manage to tie a celebration of the parks into this show that will heavily focus on newer films and franchises.

The “Tapestry of Happiness” projection show at “it's a small world” is an offering that we're especially excited to experience. The show will be a “visual love letter” to Disneyland that will up the facade of the attraction in a style inspired by Disney Legend Mary Blair, featuring the original “Celebrate Happy” theme song written for the celebration. We have very high hopes for this and think it is going to be a highlight of the celebration. One thing to note is that the showtimes for this are quite late in the evening (9:50 PM,10:20 PM, and 11:30 PM) as they are staggered with the Paint the Night parade and Wondrous Journeys fireworks showtimes. This timing does make the experience a little less accessible to families with small kids because it's so late, but it also makes it convenient to stay in the area and pair up a showing with certain parade/fireworks showtimes.

The 70th anniversary celebration also brings a variety of special foods and merchandise to the resort. You can access a free PDF printable of these foods in our Disneyland 70th anniversary food guide. There are also several special merchandise collections that will be offered during the celebration, as well as an interesting new scavenger hunt-type offering called “Key to Disneyland.” This looks like it will be a pretty interesting and fun new offering, and we're looking forward to sharing more details about this experience!

While we don't have enough room here to delve into all of the 70th anniversary offerings coming, you can see our full Disneyland 70th anniversary guide for everything you need to know.

Important Disneyland Dates This Week

Disneyland 70th anniversary merchandise

  • The private Pixar Place Hotel theme park entrance to Disney California Adventure is closing for construction to install the new entry gates. You can see details about that closure here and how long it's expected to last.
  • A ton of 70th anniversary merchandise dropped today throughout Downtown Disney and the parks. While different merch collections will be popping up in the days ahead, right now, different stores seem to be carrying different items. Disney Home has vintage items, World of Disney has the colorful 70th merch, and Elias and Co. has more of the vintage collections.
  • “it's a small world” reopens from its extended closure on Tuesday, May 13. The ride has been closed for maintenance, and its reopening date was pushed back a couple of weeks from when it was originally supposed to be and then delayed again to this week. When “it's a small world” reopens, it will feature Miguel and Dante from Coco in the Mexico area of the attraction.
  • Sorcerer's Workshop and Anna & Elsa's Royal Welcome in Disney California Adventure are both reopening tomorrow on Tuesday, May 13
  • Grad Nite parties take place at Disney California Adventure this week on Monday, May 12 and Sunday, May 18. The park will close at 9 pm on these dates. Guests can stay for World of Color, but they need to exit after the show.
  • The validity period of the SoCal resident ticket special ends on Thursday, May 15. You can always expect an uptick in crowds near the end of the validity period for a ticket special. You can expect crowds to start climbing leading up to this day as locals get the last day(s) of their visit in. Crowds will stay high as the Disneyland 70th anniversary celebration kicks off right after this point.
  • There is a new adorable pop-up in Downtown Disney! Nectar Life has arrived in this cute pink van by the D-Lander store. Guests can snag bath and beauty essentials here until their Downtown Disney permanent store opens sometime later this year. You can see details on that new store coming in our separate article here

What We're Thinking About This Week

  • Emily is kind of obsessed with the Magic Key Paint the Night poster that was just revealed. The design is so cool!
  • Gavin is curious to see how the Southern California ticket ending will impact crowds this week and is excited to be in the parks seeing everything new coming for the 70th anniversary.
  • Lindsay is over the moon about the return of Paint the Night after so many years of fans requesting its return! This is one of her favorite Disney parades and she highly recommends everyone take the time to see it.
