One Big Thing in Disneyland News – Beat the Summer Heat!

Grizzly River Run ride

The temperature is rising in Southern California as we're getting into the summer! There are some significant perks to visiting during this time, like longer hours of park operation, full Disneyland 70th anniversary offerings, and the debut of some new 70th anniversary additions coming up soon in July. While this is a great time to visit, you'll definitely want to be aware of how to navigate the heat!

During the summer, you can expect the weather at Disneyland to be pretty hot and dry, especially in the afternoons. Make sure you dress accordingly and bring sun protection like hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc. Sunscreen is sold in almost all Disneyland Resort stores in and out of the parks, but we recommend buying anything you may need ahead of your trip (also including cooling towels, fans, etc.) to avoid the higher prices. Remember that ice water is free at all quick service dining locations, and bottle refilling station locations can be found in the app.

During the warmer summer months, arriving for rope drop in the mornings is extra important so that you can enjoy rides with lower crowds and temperatures early on in the day. See our Disneyland rope drop strategy and Disney California Adventure rope drop strategy. As you get closer to the middle of the day, this is the time to plan a Lightning Lane reservation for water rides like Tiana's Bayou Adventure or Grizzly River Run, or schedule table-service dining when temperatures are the highest to escape the heat. See our guide to navigating summer at Disneyland for more tips!

Important Disneyland Dates This Week

it's a small world rainbow projections

  • The Pixar Place Hotel Disney California Adventure entrance just reopened this morning! The entrance has been closed for over a month. The entrance has the updated entry gate that you may have seen at the entrances of the theme parks. You can read about the new changes to the entry gates across the resort and how they work in our article here. This entrance will operate from park opening until noon to enter Disney California Adventure park and can be used to exit anytime. These are the same hours as the entrance had before the closure.
  • The Disney Store has started to drop the Disneyland 70th anniversary collections online! The Disneyland Resort 70th Anniversary Celebration Collection, Disneyland 70th Anniversary Walt Disney Nostalgia Collection, and Disneyland 70th Anniversary Castle Collection have been released. The next collection to drop will be the Disneyland Resort 70th anniversary Vault Mickey Mouse & Maps Collection next Monday on June 23. Check out photos of all of the Disneyland 70th anniversary merchandise in our separate article here.
  • Disneyland has fixed the infamous curved Eiffel Tower scene on Soarin' Around the World! This curving effect of the Eiffel Tower was addressed by incorporating a new shot that approaches from a different angle. You can see a clip of the new scene in the “Other Disney Content We're Watching” section below.
  • You can now find meet-up times for Rex, who is appearing for a limited time at Pixar Pier in Disney California Adventure this summer, in the Disneyland app. This wasn't previously an option, so now it will be easier to see when this favorite character is appearing!
  • The Pride Nite parties take place at Disneyland Park on Monday, June 16, and Wednesday, June 18. There are still tickets available for the event and the special event-exclusive foods that will be available here. You can see more details about Pride Nite at Disneyland here. These two parties are the last of the Disneyland After Dark series this year.
  • On June 19, there will be an unofficial meetup celebrating Juneteenth in both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. The meet-up will happen at 1pm at the Main Street Train Station. You can see details in an Instagram post by @bpoetic here.

  • Pride Nite will take place at Disneyland Park on June 16 and 18, closing the park at 8 pm.
  • The Disneyland 70th anniversary show, World of Color: Happiness!, runs every night at Disney California Adventure. Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration runs twice daily.
  • At Disneyland Park, Wondrous Journeys shows with fireworks every night of the week, along with Fantasmic!. Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga will have one showtime a night. Paint the Night runs twice a night, and The Celebrate Happy Calvacade runs twice during the day.

What We're Thinking About This Week

  • Emily is really happy to see that the Eiffel Tower scene on Soarin' has been fixed! That issue really took you out of the immersion of the ride, so it's good that they addressed this with a different angle for that scene.
  • Gavin is happy to have the Pixar Place entrance open once again. I like using that to more easily cut into that side of Disney's Grand Californian when staying there.
  • Lindsay loves to see the addition of more breakfast items in the area especially with a grab and go option that Wetzels Pretzels now offers.

Disneyland Crowd Calendar This Week

This week, you can expect mostly normal crowds at the parks. Most local schools are out for summer break now. While crowds can be noticeable during the summer, this time of year is not quite as busy as some of the peak times of the year at Disneyland, like Halloween in October and the holidays. During the summer months, it's especially important to make good use of Lightning Lane Multi Pass at Disneyland to skip the lines for attractions! See our Disneyland Lightning Lane Multi Pass tips for making the most of the service.

You can see our rating of all upcoming dates in our Mickey Visit Disneyland Crowd Calendar.

New Disneyland Ride Closures This Week

Here are some of the current ride closures that are continuing into this week:

  • Matterhorn Bobsleds is closed for refurbishment
  • Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room is closed for refurbishment (reopening date announced!)
  • The Disney Gallery is closed for refurbishment

You can see reopening dates for some of the above attractions and other upcoming closures in our Disneyland ride refurbishment guide.

Other Disney Content We're Watching

Each week, we'll share some of our favorite information and fun content from across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube in an effort to spotlight some of the great creators who work so hard to share details from Disneyland.

First up, we have a video from Philander (@philanderc85 on Instagram) showing that the infamous curved Eiffel Tower on Soarin' Around the World has been fixed!

Next, we wanted to include this post from Matt Desmond (@disneyscoopguy on Instagram) showing how the Autopia MagicBand+ interaction point has finally been revealed. It unfortunately doesn't have the cool tickets that some of the other interaction points do, and it just makes a few different Autopia-inspired sounds. You can see all the other Disneyland MagicBand+ additions for the 70th.
