Mickey Gilbert's College Choice is a college search and admissions process through individualized attention and unlimited sessions. There are over 3,000 colleges and universities throughout the United States. The goal is to narrow down the choices and select 10-15 colleges that appeal to you. Here's how we do it:
A FREE FIRST SESSION
Make an appointment. Bring your parents. Come talk to Mickey and see what he has to offer. He'll tell you how he works and answer your questions.
AN INFORMATIONAL INTERVIEW
Before you think about a college you'll need to think about yourself: your likes, dislikes, values, style, wishes, needs, and wants. We'll talk about who you really are and who you want to be.
CAREER INTEREST INVENTORY
A career interest inventory can help you focus on what you are interested in and how that interest relates to the world of work and your academic field of study.
THE COLLEGE SEARCH BEGINS
We will put together all the pieces to find the right college that fits your needs and wants. You will be given a profile of the schools that interest you. Each college profile is individually analyzed, discussed, and evaluated. Some are kept to explore more deeply, others are tossed.
THE ACTIVITY SHEET AND PERSONAL RESUME
You are given resumes of past students (whose identities are withheld). We compare and create a resume that highlights all you have experienced throughout your high school years- both in the classroom and extracurricular activities. We share interests, accomplishments, and achievements. This is where we brag!
THE ESSAY
Through brainstorming, outlining, and coaching, a personal essay is written. The activity sheet highlights all of your activities, whereas your essay is more specific, focused, and in depth.
THE ADMISSION INTERVIEW
Through role playing, we practice a series of mock interviews. Anecdotes, experiences, and stories you can share that may help your admission chances are rehearsed.
THE CAMPUS TOUR
Visiting a prospective college is very important. It's important to see what the campus looks and feels like. Is it a city campus? A frisbee campus? A court-yard campus? Which one appeals to you? The campus often can't be seen or experienced from a website or a view book. You need to breathe the air, walk the paths, sit in the student center, and people watch. Mickey will help organize the visits and make suggestions based on his knowledge and experience of the schools you are visiting.
THE APPLICATION
Mickey will guide you in completing, checking, re-checking, and checking again the application as it moves to completion. He supports you even through the anxiety producing last second of hitting that "send" button.
WINTER APPLICATION UPDATE
While many students take a sit-back-and-wait-and-see attitude, Mickey's students are proactive. They make phone calls, send e-mails, and write follow-up letters. We update your application package and continue to show the perseverance and interest that you have in the schools to which you have chosen to apply.
WHAT IF?
We approach a college's decision on acceptance with assertiveness and action. Whether it is an acceptance, a deferral, a wait list, or a denial letter, Mickey is by your side to support you and guide you all the way.
